Job Summary: Integrates faith and learning through implementing the Spiritual Master Plan, overseeing worship services and student engagement initiatives. With a focus on discipleship and fostering campus engagement with local churches, the Chaplain plays a vital role in nurturing the spiritual well-being of students, faculty, and staff. The Chaplain must demonstrate a contagious love for Jesus, a strong commitment to the authority of Scripture, and a deep passion for the Adventist message and mission. Proven people skills and the ability to engage students in a positive, faith-building manner are essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  Leadership and Committee Involvement:

  
  


• 
  

  Serve as secretary of the Spiritual Life Committee, ensuring the integration of faith, learning, and wholistic living through the Spiritual Master Plan.

  
  


• 
  

  Serve on the Spiritual Life Council to develop, plan, coordinate, and promote non-academic spiritual activities and initiatives on and off campus.

  
  


• 
  

  Advises the social committee and other committees to ensure alignment with church standards.

  
  


• 
  

  Supervisory Responsibilities:

  
  


• 
  

  Supervise the associate chaplain and assistant chaplain to ensure quality execution of small group opportunities across campus and the weekly Vespers worship services.

  
  


• 
  

  Oversee associate chaplain and assistant chaplain's credit card usage and approve purchases.

  
  


• 
  

  Student Engagement and Discipleship:

  
  


• 
  

  Mentor and empower student leaders to plan and execute Vespers worship services, Bible studies, and service opportunities.

  
  


• 
  

  Conduct individual and group Bible studies with students.

  
  


• 
  

  Initiate an intentional student discipleship process that utilizes existing campus ministries.

  
  


• 
  

  Oversees follow-up with students' "Next Steps," including Bible study requests, baptismal appeals, and ministry involvement due to their experience during weeks of worship, Sonrise, LifeGroup, Vision Trips, Student Missions, etc.

  
  


• 
  

  Organize and promote biannual baptismal celebrations during weeks of prayer.

  
  


• 
  

  Coordinate baptismal requests for students desiring baptism at their home church.

  
  


• 
  

  Faculty and Staff Engagement

  
  


• 
  

  Coordinates devotionals, guides the institution's members, and recommends spiritual and religious resources for teachers and staff.

  
  


• 
  

  Motivates staff to participate in spiritual activities.

  
  


• 
  

  Supports faculty and staff LifeGroups.

  
  


• 
  

  Guides, instructs and assists in organizing the integration of faith and learning.

  
  


• 
  

  Liaison with Local Churches

  
  


• 
  

  With the VP of Spiritual Life and Associate Chaplain, partner with the Senior Pastor of the Collegedale Church to facilitate spiritual community engagement in church life.

  
  


• 
  

  Serve on the pastoral staff and attend weekly meetings.

  
  


• 
  

  Collaborate with the Senior Pastor on on-campus spiritual life programming.

  
  


• 
  

  Facilitate partnerships with local churches to engage students deeply in church life.

  
  


• 
  

  Additional Responsibilities:

  
  


• 
  

  Assist the Vice President for Spiritual Life in strategic initiatives as needed.

  
  


• 
  

  Conducts orientation seminars for parents and guardians.

  
  


• 
  

  Perform other duties as assigned.

  
  

Qualifications:

• Master of Divinity or related master's degree required.


• Pastoral training and experience, minimum five years preferred.


• Is an endorsed chaplain through the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists or will seek endorsement.


• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.


• Proven ability to spiritually nurture university-age students.


• Proven written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.


• Strong understanding of Christianity and Adventism.


• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Interpersonal and leadership skills.


• Broad understanding of religious and faith traditions.


• Experience in worship planning and spiritual programming.


• Able to provide spiritual care to students, faculty, and staff.


• Proficiency in mentoring, teaching, and preaching.


• Effective time management, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.


• Capable of training students and volunteers.


• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Teams, and Word.

Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, an SDA church member in good and regular standing, and a desire to serve in a cooperative, spiritually redemptive, and soul-winning atmosphere. Practice confidentiality of information at all times.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. It may require lifting up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, and telephones. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

Working Conditions: Essential tasks are performed under normal office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated. Some travel required.
