The Montfort Academy
Mount Vernon, New York
The Montfort Academy is seeking a full-time dynamic teacher who is capable of--and passionate about--teaching Physics and Mathematics. The candidate should have a mastery of Physics at least at the undergraduate levels and of Mathematics at least through the Calculus level. The candidate should also have a deep appreciation of Galileo's observation that "mathematics is the language with which God wrote the universe," applying it to the understanding that scientific exploration reveals the Creator's grand design hidden in the perfect order of the physical universe. In other words, the study of Creation through the sciences and mathematics points us directly to the Creator.

An excellent candidate will be liberally educated with a major or concentration in Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, or Mathematics and the ability to teach students of all levels and abilities. The successful candidate will also know how to reach into other subjects and interact in a collaborative way with our teachers of history, theology, and philosophy in order to facilitate another school goal, namely an interdisciplinary study that espouses St. Augustine's maxim that all truth is God's truth; in other words, that faith and reason do not contradict one another but instead work together to lead us to truth. Precise use of the scientific method in lab is essential along with guidance of the students on how to read scientific papers and how to write full lab reports. The Physics curriculum includes 10 to 20 practical labs, sometimes in two or three parts and uses college-level lab equipment, including our large rooftop telescope for the optics unit.

The chosen candidate will also be the coordinator and advisor of our Engineering Club, which includes robotics, depending on student interest. In addition to command of modern, state-of-the-art science teaching methods, an excellent candidate will be faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and excited to bring students close to God through the study of His creation. An excellent candidate will also be excited to form young minds through primary texts such Galileo's Starry Messenger and Newton's Principia Mathematica and through use of the Socratic Method. Interested individuals should familiarize themselves with the character of our Academy through study of our website: http://www.themontfortacademy.org and Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram Social Media platforms, and then submit a cover letter and resume to the Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Anna Greco, [email protected].
