Senior Composite Design Engineer

The Role Tesla is looking for an experienced Composite Senior Design Engineer to drive the development of composite BIW structures, Bodywork panels and closures. This person will join a team focused on using composites to improve vehicle performance and the customer experience. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with simulation, Laboratory, Manufacturing and Test teams to rapidly iterate on the product. Responsibilities Design composite structural components for a variety of products. Deliver a complete product specification including GD&T, quality requirements, testing requirements and assembly specifications. Work closely with other design teams to efficiently use the allowable packaging space. Help less experienced team members grow their skills and capabilities. Work with internal and external suppliers to bring those parts to production. Coordinate early component delivery and validation. Requirements Strong engineering fundamentals. Strong working background in advanced composites materials development, selection, specifications and characterization (at least 8 years). An ability to break problems down into key requirements. Composite Manufacturing know-how to support part design for manufacturing. Able to interpret simulation results. Understanding of building block approach and testing methodologies. Competence in material joining technologies (adhesives and bonding) for composites.
