S&ME is seeking a motivated self-starter with a passion for business development and a desire to make a positive impact in the engineering consulting industry to join our team in Charleston, South Carolina as a part-time Senior Business Developer.




What You Will Do:


As a Senior Business Developer, you'll play a pivotal role in driving forward business development initiatives, working closely with Marketing and Project Management teams across a spectrum of sectors, including economic, commercial, and industrial development, as well as municipal and governmental projects.



  • Strategy: Collaborate with local staff to establish ambitious sales objectives, while simultaneously fostering relationships with key decision-makers to propel business strategies. Dive deep into market trends, leveraging industry networks and top-tier resources to identify emerging opportunities and potential new markets and clients.

  • Business Development: Elevate client relationships, securing fresh partnerships and collaborating on multidisciplinary projects to maximize success rates. Stay actively engaged in professional associations, leveraging networking opportunities for continual growth and expansion.

  • Marketing: Plan association involvement and advertising strategies, organizing local events to enhance engagement.

  • Proposals / Requests for Qualifications: Assist in developing and submitting proposals and responses to RFQs.

  • Lead: Take a leadership role in monthly Business Development meetings, guiding efforts and ensuring alignment across teams for maximum impact.

  • Seek: Proactively identify and pursue genuine business opportunities, leveraging key client accounts and supporting sales activities to drive continued growth. Dedicate efforts to maintaining crucial client relationships through a comprehensive client maintenance program.

  • Relationships: Nourish existing client connections while also supporting corporate business development personnel and locations in nurturing relationships with other S&ME clients, fostering a robust network of partnerships and collaborations.

  • Mentor: Share your expertise and insights with local business development personnel, managers, and technical professionals, providing guidance and support as needed to cultivate effective business development techniques. Offer one-on-one training, review approaches to specific scenarios, and assist in the acquisition and retention of new key clients.




To excel in your role as a Business Developer with S&ME, a demonstrated track record of success in researching, prospecting, and scheduling face-to-face meetings with key decision-makers is essential. Additionally, active involvement and visibility within professional organizations, industry associations, civic groups, and local associations for economic and business growth will serve as valuable assets in your endeavors.




Who You Are:



  • You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, marketing, business, or a related field

  • You have a minimum of 15 years of technical and/or business development experience within the Commercial Real Estate, Architecture, Construction, and Engineering industries

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • You have existing relationships with various A/E/C industry Designers, Contractors, and Owners

  • You are willing and able to travel, using personal vehicle for use during company business.
