Position Overview


The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.


POSITION SUMMARY:


ENMU-Roswell is seeking a Biology Instructor with the ability and desire to teach any combination of freshman and sophomore-level biology and chemistry courses, including General Biology, Principles of Biology: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Chemistry in Our Community, General Chemistry for STEM Majors I and II, and/or other related courses in the fall and spring semesters (day and/or evening/s and/or online), based on institutional need. The courses include laboratory components. This is a full-time (10-month) faculty assignment and is a tenure-track position. This position will instruct the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester at the Roswell Campus. This position will be required to teach some or all classes on the Roswell campus.Candidates must possess a strong commitment to teaching, working with a diverse population, and the community and technical college mission. This position reports to the Dean of the School of Arts & Science Education.


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:


Duties and responsibilities shall be, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning in assigned courses.

  • Create and model a quality learning environment to support a diverse student population including disabled, first-generation, Hispanic/Latinx, and/or Pell-eligible students.

  • Use Canvas for communication and feedback, curriculum development, course design and delivery, and student outcome assessment.

  • Have working knowledge of learning management systems in addition to face-to-face and innovative technology-based instructional delivery approaches. Fully utilize the college learning management system including regular grade updates, electronic course materials, and on-time grade submissions.

  • Maintain an emphasis on student success and retention through active and collaborative learning strategies, regular office hours, student advising, institutional service/committee work, community service, and professional development.

  • Utilize a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes.

  • Participates in the assessment of learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in course planning.

  • Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.

  • Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with program and course outcomes.

  • Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including standardized course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.

  • Attend in-service sessions, campus/department meetings, graduations, and convocation as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Master's degree in Biology OR a master's degree with at least 18 GSH in a combination of the qualifying fields that provide a foundation in the specific subject matter being taught.

  • At least two years of teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.

  • Experience and interest in working with diverse student populations.

  • Ability to successfully and efficiently use word processing, basic internet applications, basic database navigation, and a learning management system.

  • Ability to teach face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid formats.

  • You must submit sample lab assignments, syllabi, and/or class activities demonstrating your commitment to curriculum development, and supporting diverse students and student success.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Ph.D. in related fields.

  • Experience teaching at a public two-year, community college.

  • Experience managing classroom labs, budgets, and supply orders.

  • Experience working at a Hispanic-Serving Institution.

  • Experience with program evaluation and assessment.
